Dear Families,
What an exciting week in the Bear’s class. It began on Monday with our fabulous pajama party, and went all the way through Friday afternoon! Almost all of the children came to school wearing pajamas and carrying a favorite stuffed animal. We read the story If You Give A Pig A Pancake, and followed that by serving a breakfast of waffles, maple syrup, Cheerios, milk and orange juice, in place of our regular snack. Our craft projects were to decorate and glue a bowl of cereal and string a Fruit Loop necklace. Both crafts were enjoyed by all.
On Tuesday, the children participated in Blot painting: paint is placed on the paper and then folded in half. They then rubbed their hands over the entire paper and the paint was identical on both sides when it was opened up! They continued adding different colors and were amazed at how beautiful the paintings were. Almost every child made multiple paintings!
On Wednesday we split the class in half for a period of time. This allowed two small groups to have a chance to participate in activities. One group stayed in the classroom to use shaving cream on the tables while the other group went to the middle room to participate in several different activities. The most popular activity was playing at the new train table. Each group enjoyed cleaning up from the shaving cream as much as they enjoyed using it! Each child had the chance to be in both rooms.
Thursday’s highlight was our walk outside. It was finally warm enough, and not too icy. We walked on Beacon Street, taking some photographs in front of the Temple. We then walked all the way around the block, making many observations as we went along. When the children were asked to tell us something that they saw or did on our walk, the responses were:
Orli- Grass
Bailey- My house
Emily- Berries on a bush
Aidan- Water streams and very close I saw a puddle
Charlie- We went around.
Zev- Uh, the ice
Ben- Snow
Bailey- and we came back to school
Hopefully we will be able to use the playground again following next week’s vacation. During our center time we talked about some of the Presidents (George Washington and Abe Lincoln) and each child made their own penny and dollar bill. We also did an experiment with pennies, placing them in vinegar to see how shiny they became.
On Friday, Orli and Zev were thrilled to share their parents, Lauren and Paul, who were this week’s special Shabbat visitors. Prior to Shabbat we read the story The Very Best Place For A Penny, and each child filled a paper Tzedakah box with money stickers. We continue to discuss the importance of a real Tzedakah box, and we collect coins each week during our Shabbat celebration.
Thank you to Ben’s mom, Inna, who spent some time in our classroom on Thursday taking lots of pictures. We invite each of you to spend time with us when you have a chance.
We hope that you all enjoy the school vacation week. There are still a few openings for next week’s programs. If you are interested, please call Shari Churwin.
Shabbat Shalom, and Happy Vacation!

Pajama Day is Coming Up!
Dear Families,
Due to the fact that the children and teachers were required to actually attend school for an entire week, the Bear’s class will require some additional “lazy” time. Given that information, we have declared that Monday, February 14th will be designated as “Pajama Day”! Participation in this activity is totally voluntary. Children wishing to participate are invited to come to school wearing their pajamas. We ask that you have them wear regular clothes on top of the pjs due to the very cold temperatures. Upon arrival at school the children can remove their street clothes and place them in their cubbies. The children are also invited to bring along a favorite stuffed animal for cuddling with during story time. We will make every effort to see that these animals stay clean and are not misplaced! We will serve a special snack, and our stories and crafts will reflect the theme of the day.
The children have all adapted to our new classroom setup. They can locate all of the materials which have been moved to new storage spaces. This week some of the children began to really participate in group block play. They placed the blocks at various angles, creating roads. They enjoyed racing the cars down the hills! They also had an opportunity to use the new trains and train table.
Unfortunately we are still unable to play outside due to both the cold temperature and the massive amount of snow which is on the playground. Hopefully we will have some warm days in the next few weeks, as the children love being outdoors. As dedicated Bostonians, we know that spring is just around the corner because the Red Sox players have begun to report to Fort Meyers for Spring training! To allow for some movement activity, the middle room was set up as an obstacle course, and the children enjoyed navigating through the various stations.
It has been wonderful meeting with each of you to discuss your children’s progress. We look forward to meeting with the rest of you next week.
Please remember that the TCEE will not have regular programming during the week of February 21st. There are still a few spots available for anyone wishing to sign up for any of the vacation day programs.
Have a wonderful weekend. Shabbat Shalom

Pajama Party Coming Up!
Dear Families,
This week may have been a short one, but it was certainly full of adventure! If you have our classroom now, you may think that you are in the wrong place! All of the furniture has been moved, to help create more defined curriculum centers. There is a new bright area rug in our new circle time area. There has been some new shelving ordered, which will greatly increase our storage space for books, and will give the new wooden blocks a specific “home”. We will also be adding some new bulletin boards to help display some of the children’s artwork. If you have any ideas as to how we can better utilize the space, please speak up. We are always open to suggestions.
Thank you to Bailey and her family for donating some wooden blocks to our class. Thank you to Shayna and her family, and Ashley and Julia and their family, for each donating a new dollhouse to our class. The children have all enjoyed playing with these new materials.
With another week came yet another snowstorm. Thank you for all of your understanding when we have had to close the school. Hopefully we will be able to use the playground again soon.
On Monday, February 14, the Bears will be having a Pajama Party. More details will be sent home next week. We will do some activities leading up to the special day, and then top off our celebration with a special treat!
Thank you to those who have already signed up for a conference. If you have not already done so, please speak to one of the teachers at your earliest convenience. We look forward to speaking to each and every one of you.
Shabbat Shalom, and enjoy the snow!
